About Me

Well hello,

This is my second venture into the blogosphere.  My first was poorly managed and poorly conceived.  I was not passionate about what I was writing, and as a result, it was horribly unsuccessful.  I decided that this blog would be a good way to share some stories, opinions, and hopefully some helpful tips that I have discovered along the way.  I do not profess to be a guru.  I’m only 28.  I have a son and a daughter on the way.  They are 2 and -.1 respectively.  I simply thought this would be a neat way to help people make it through a tough time and save some money the didn’t know how to save.  I’d define myself as a social liberal and fiscal conservative.  Most would say that makes me a political Libertarian.  I’m not really sure and don’t really care.I think my mantra would be “Leave me alone,” but I don’t really invest in mantras.  They seem a bit weird to me.

Here are some fun facts that will give you some insight into me as a person and my perspective as an author:

I’m an only child which many will look upon as meaning I was spoiled and never had to share.  Don’t worry, my father took care of those issues just fine thank you.  I grew up in a small town in Connecticut where I lived 1/4 mile off the road on a dirt driveway.  My parents are since recently divorce, giving me some turmoil and perspective in my life.  My wife Liz and I met at UConn where I studied education for 5 years.  We got married in 2004 and have enjoyed our marriage greatly ever since.  I have taught in Connecticut for the past six years and was previously employed by a fantastic family owned landscaping business in Canton.  My father is from the Korean War generation, born in ’35 and my mom is a baby boomer born in 46.  Dad was a carpenter and Mom was a teacher.  I was forced to work hard and study a lot.

I believe in hard work above just about everything else except maybe loyalty.  I cut split and stack 5-6 cord of firewood by myself and mostly by hand.  I work a full-time job as a 4th grade teacher, but also do part time work administering standardized tests, serving as a webmaster, amateur writing, teaching summer school, taking apart pianos, and more.  I plant my own garden, attempt to fix my own house, and am working on learning how to fix my truck on my own.

My wife and I recently put solar panels on the roof of our colonial house (built 1790) and are generating nearly all our electrical needs from it.

I am a perfectionist and a scatterbrain at the same time.  I apologize if my writing may take tangents.  Just imagine what I would have written if I didn’t filter it at all.   My head is full of craziness.

My passion may put me on a soapbox, but I rarely want to get there.  Please feel free to call me on it.  My hope is simply to help and be somewhat entertaining.  I’m not sure how well either will go.

Thank you for reading.

Tom
